A year of exciting innovation: 2024 with ithinx
2024 was a busy year here at ithinx with many technological advancements taking place both within the company and across the industry. There have been some economic challenges in the market and we are proud that with hard work we have still been able to make this a successful year. Below, we show you the topics that have kept us busy, the exciting partnerships we have been able to forge and the innovations we are looking forward to in 2025.
Light & Building
At the beginning of every ithinx year, a trade fair is regularly held in Frankfurt. This time it was the turn of the Light & Building trade fair. With our expertise in low-power wireless communication, many customers and prospects always visit us at the show, and this year was no exception. Thanks to our close collaboration with wibutler and many of the platform’s partners, we were also pleased to see many familiar faces.
Matter
The most important topics discussed at the trade fair were Matter and the transformation of Matter proof-of-concept projects into successful, certified products, as well as security requirements, in particular the Cyber Resilience Act.
Later in the year, Matter specification 1.4 was published, which includes a wide range of new product types with a particular focus on energy management. We anticipate that it will continue to be an important part of our work in 2025 and will undoubtedly be a topic at the ISH trade fair in Frankfurt in March 2025, which we will of course also be attending.
Security
In terms of security, the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) – similar to RED 3.3 today – will be an essential part of the authorisation of IoT devices in the future. According to the current timetable, vulnerability handling as part of the CRA will be mandatory from 11 September 2026, while full implementation must take place by 11 December 2027. While RED 3.3 mainly only relates to the IoT product with an interface to the internet, the CRA covers the entire end-to-end chain, i.e. including cloud services and tools or apps. Depending on the scope of delivery, not all requirements will have to be fulfilled by ithinx, but an assessment of the entire spectrum will be necessary at the start of each new product and the responsibilities must be agreed with the customer. We at ithinx make an essential contribution to the fulfilment of the CRA, as often only a few external customers have sufficient experience in this area themselves.
Embedded World
For the first time, Embedded World in Nuremberg gave us the opportunity to not only attend trade fairs but also run a stand. The team worked tirelessly in the run up to the event to prepare a great looking stand with some fantastic demos. This included our new iXpro gateway, developed in partnership with NXP. As well as announcing the partnership, we also met lots of customers, rounding off a busy week.
IoT Forum
In June, we were once again able to hold our IoT Forum together with wibutler. This time Cassini kindly provided the venue and it was a real treat. Attendees enjoyed a series of thought-provoking keynotes, followed by networking, overlooking the River Elbe from Cassini’s office in the warehouse district. Guest speakers from companies such as NXP and 1nce gave insights into the most important trend, artificial intelligence. It’s always a pleasure when major companies come together, often from different market segments or industries, and jointly tackle some of the challenges and opportunities ahead. Whether it’s working on your marketing concepts or getting the most out of your data, artificial intelligence will impact all of our businesses. Our IoT Forum continues to pick up on these topics and offers attendees the opportunity to discuss and share opinions to keep everyone one step ahead. Watch our YouTube Video to discover the highlights of the wibutler x ithinx IoT Forum 2024 and soon information about our IoT Forum 2025 will follow here.
Extended Testing capacity
Of course, IoT is not just about development. Testing is an important part of our work. Our testing department, which not only tests our own developments but also provides testing services for our customers, is always looking to expand capacity and get the best value for money. We are therefore delighted to have concluded an agreement with NOFFZ for new testing equipment so that we can serve even more customers in 2025.
SMARC & Evaluation Kits
In autumn and winter, we continued to work intensively on our iXpro solution series. From the end of the year, we will be able to offer an iXpro in SMARC format. This will make it much easier for customers to produce cost-effective product variants thanks to its modular structure.
In addition, we will also be able to supply our iXpro evaluation kits from Q1 next year. They offer an excellent opportunity not only to familiarise yourself with our gateway solution, but also to start developing your business-relevant application.
For ithinx, 2024 was characterised by technological milestones and pioneering projects in the IoT. With smart solutions and a clear focus on innovative technologies, we were able to further strengthen our position as a leading IoT service provider. We set new standards and enable our customers to significantly increase their efficiency and competitiveness. Our successful year shows that ithinx continues to be your reliable partner for the digital transformation of the future. We look forward to everything that 2025 has in store for us and the IoT industry!
